“Springfields will be forever in our hearts” – Wade Hall Family Support Centre shuts after 16 years

A Thanksgiving BBQ was held on final day of the Springfields Family Support Centre on the Wade Hall estate in Leyland last week, 30th June 2016. The Centre was part of the Leyland Project a local Charity that runs The Place Community Centre on Wade Hall and the Base Community Centre on Broadfield both in Leyland. Sadly due to unsuccessful funding bids and reduction to local government funding, the centre is another casualty of austerity.

Carole Schultz the Centre Manager who started with the Leyland Project as a volunteer 24 years ago, said, ”It has been a privilege to serve the families of Wade Hall, to share in a deep sense of community spirit”. Tim Grose one of the past Project Managers said “ there must be literally hundreds of families that Carole has touched and made a real difference to the quality of their lives”. The Springfields Centre had different groups running every day of the week, catering for under 5’s and regular courses from learning to cook on a budget to parenting. Revd Tony Crawford, Leyland Baptist Pastor and Chair of Trustees said,” the Trustees with very heavy hearts had no choice but to close this Centre, but we thank God for all the good work done over its 16 year history and for the support of our staff, volunteers and partners Progress Housing Group and the Children Centre. ”
